MCGG honored with Alexander Macomb Historical Award for a Group from MCHA

On April 25, 2015, the Macomb County Heritage Alliance (MCHA) presented its Alexander Macomb Historical Award for an organization to the Macomb County Genealogy Group. Our chairperson Ann Faulkner had the honor of accepting the award for our group which was presented by MCHA President Kim Parr.

Each year MCHA presents the Alexander Macomb Historical Award to a person and an organization that has contributed to the preservation of Macomb County history.

DNA DAY Sale: FamilyTree DNA Coupon Saves $100 on the Big Y Test

Here's another DNA sale for this year's DNA Day 2015.

FamilyTree DNA's sale is $100 off the Big Y test which is regularly $575. Use the coupon code DNADayBigY which is valid from 12:00 a.m. April 25th through 11:59 p.m. April 30th. Remember there is an additional charge for shipping and handling.


This is not what most people were hoping for in terms of a sale but the email announcing this sale mentioned, "Family Tree DNA is looking forward to offering many exciting deals beginning Summer 2015."

Most people are looking for an autosomal test (FamilyFinder), an mtDNA test, or one of the smaller Y-DNA tests. Hopefully one or all of these will be included in these deals "beginning Summer 2015."

DNA DAY Sale: AncestryDNA Test is Now ON SALE for $79 Until April 27, 2015

Did you remember that April 25 is DNA Day? 

That usually means sales on DNA tests.

Ancestry.com recently announced it is honoring DNA Day with a 20 percent off sale on its AncestryDNA test until April 27, 2015. That means the test will cost $79 instead of $99. The price does not include shipping which costs about $10 per test.

You can find the sale at a special DNA sale page. Remember to make sure you see the sale price on the webpage before you purchase. (The sale price is not always reflected on the normal Ancestry.com store and DNA pages.) You may need to refresh your browser.

This Wednesday's Let's Talk...Genealogy Topic is: Making a Visit and Research Plan for a Trip to an Archives/Library -- Part 1

This Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in the Genealogy/Local History Room of the Mount Clemens Public Library is MCGG's Let's Talk...Genealogy meeting. The discussion topic of the night is Making a Visit and Research Plan for a Trip to an Archives/Library -- Part 1.

We're planning a field trip to the Archives of Michigan. We'll learn how to plan a visit (use the website) and create a research plan for that trip to make best use of your time. These tips will work with any library/archives. Attendees of the trip are encouraged to briefly talk about their plans at our June meeting.
