DNA Sales Timed for Columbus Day, Discover Something New About You

As we wait for Black Friday and Cyber Monday in November, there are a few DNA sales taking place right now for the Columbus Day holiday.

MyHeritage's Columbus Day sale ends in four days. MyHeritageDNA (autosomal) Ancestry only tests regularly $79 each are on sale for $49 each (plus taxes and shipping) until October 14, 2019. Orders of two or more MyHeritageDNA Ancestry Only kits receive free shipping. This is the lowest price of the year so far.

MyHeritageDNA is one of the newer players in the DNA and genealogy testing niche. Its customer base is more international. Early last year, the company has added a chromosome browser feature and made its internal member messaging feature free. It also offers an ethnicity/admixture report and a list of DNA matches. No data subscription is needed to see/use all the DNA matching features. A few additional features were added earlier this year like the DNA Tools AutoCluster feature.

MyHeritage now has a MyHeritage DNA Health+Ancestry test for $199 regular price. It is not currently on sale at this time.

As a reminder, MyHeritageDNA also sells its test kits on Amazon.com and often at sale prices when it is having a sale. However, for this sale the price on Amazon is regular price. So it makes more sense to buy it directly from MyHeritage.

23 and Me is celebrating the release of some new features with a sale on its autosomal DNA test variations. This sale ends October 15, 2019.

23andMe's Ancestry Only DNA test now includes 30+ Trait Reports. The test is regularly $99 but is on sale for $70 plus taxes and shipping.

23andMe's Health + Ancestry Service is regularly priced $199 but is on sale for $149 plus taxes and shipping.

23andMe Ancestry Service (autosomal DNA) provides an ethnicity (admixture) report, list of DNA matches, chromosome browser and an internal member messaging system. 23andMe also provides a general look at your Y-DNA haplogroup (if male) and mtDNA haplogroup. No subscription is needed to see/use all the DNA matching features. See the 23andMe website to learn more about the Health service option.

23andMe now has a VIP Health + Ancestry Service which is regularly priced $499 and is currently not on sale. This VIP Health + Ancestry is actually a bundle package which includes two Ancestry + Health test kits, overnight shipping, priority lab processing, premium customer support and 1-on-1 Ancestry results walkthrough.

As a reminder, 23andMe also sells its test kits on Amazon.com and often at sale prices when it is having a sale. (Make sure the seller shown is 23andMe fulfilled by Amazon and not sold by a third-party unauthorized seller.) Non-Amazon Prime members get free shipping due to the total cost and because it is fulfilled by Amazon; prime members just get quicker 2-day shipping for free.
Above: Look for this when buying on Amazon.

Our Next MCGG Let's Talk...Genealogy Meeting is this Wed., October 9, at 7 pm; Our Topic is MCPL's New Resource FamilySearch Affiliate Status

The MCGG Let's Talk...Genealogy discussion group meets, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at 7 p.m. in the Local History and Genealogy Room of the Mount Clemens Public Library. Our topic was listed as ... Local History and Genealogy Resources at Mount Clemens Public Library: Learn about some resources available at our favorite library.

Okay, that was our cover story just in case things fell thru or did not line up time-wise. (Thank you September Let's Talk attendees for not spreading the word after it came up in a question at last month's meeting.)

Now that the secret is out, we can reveal that the real topic for the evening is Mount Clemens Public Library as of October 1 is a FamilySearch Affiliate Library. We will talk about what this means and how to access and best utilize the website when in our favorite library -- Mount Clemens Public Library. Of course, if you have questions about the room holdings and other resources we will cover that too.

The likes are rising at our Facebook page.
New attendees are always welcome.

Mount Clemens Public Library is the First and Only FamilySearch Affiliate Library in Macomb County as of October 1, 2019

We have some fantastic news to share with you!

Mount Clemens Public Library -- Our Favorite Library!
As of October 1, 2019, our favorite library — Mount Clemens Public Library — is the first and only FamilySearch Affiliate library in Macomb County, Michigan.

That means when you are in the Mount Clemens Public Library using the internet computers or your own device (like a laptop) while connected to the library's wireless network, when you sign into your personal username account on FamilySearch.org many of those "locked digitized images" that you encounter when you are searching at home or elsewhere will be unlocked and available for viewing. (Remote access is not included for MCPL card holders.)

Now there will still be some digitized images that affiliate libraries can not access requiring you a visit to a local Family History Center (FHC) (aka FamilySearch Center) or the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. The nearest local FHC for most Macomb County residents is the Bloomfield Hills Family History Center on Woodward Avenue.

Our MCGG volunteers in MCPL's Local History and Genealogy Room will get some training to help patrons with the FamilySearch website. (The library staff too.) Until that happens, be patient with them. A handout to help everyone is available in the Local History and Genealogy Room.

We hope everyone enjoys this new library resource. Happy Searching Everyone!
