Revised Hours Announced for Bloomfield Hills Family History Center

Our friends over at the Bloomfield Hills Family History Center in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, have informed us that they have added to their operating hours.

Current Operating hours are:

  • Tuesday     10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Thursday    6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Friday        10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday    10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bloomfield Hills Family History Center as seen from Google Maps

The Bloomfield Hills Family History Center is located at 37425 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan 48304-5002. The phone number is 1-248-647-5671. Remember, though the phone does have an answering machine, the phone is only answered when staff volunteers are present.

The Family History Center is located in the red brick church in the northeast corner. The entrance door is on the northwest side so use the parking lot in the back near that door. Upon entry, follow the hall straight ahead to the end and then turn right. The door to the FHC room is on the left about the second or third one down the hall. Look for the signs.

So gather those lists of to-dos you have been collecting (you have been doing that right?) and determine a day that works for you to check those items off your list. Don't forget your USB drive so you can save/download those new finds.

MCGG's October 12th Meeting is Virtual -- The Topic is Find A Grave -- Join Us!

First, an FYI: The MCGG Board has decided to delay the release of our Fall 2022 schedule until we learn more about when the renovation of Mount Clemens Public Library will be completed and we can meet in person again at our favorite library.

Please, bear with us and be patient.

Our MCGG and Let's Talk...Genealogy groups combined virtual meeting is Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 7 p.m. using Zoom Meeting. The topic of the meeting is Find A Grave: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly presented by MCGG Member Robert McGarry using our Let's Talk...Genealogy discussion format.

MCGG members on the mailing list will receive the Zoom Meeting invite in the reminder email to be sent prior to the meeting. New attendees can obtain the invite link closer to the event date using the Library Events calendar on the website of the Mount Clemens Public Library.

See you soon someday at our favorite library!

DYK? ... October is Family History Month! October 2, 2022

 31 Days of Genealogy Inspiration

October 2, 2022

Research your farmer ancestors, it is World Farm Animals Day.

or

Research your African ancestry, it is International African Diaspora Day.

or

Try something new or try a new way of researching, it is Change a Light Day.

We plan to have suggestions for each day of this month. Most will be smaller ideas to focus on for a day, some might be a little larger. We will try to have at least a couple suggestions so if one does not fit with your family history, hopefully the other will work.

DYK? ... October is Family History Month! October 1, 2022

31 Days of Genealogy Inspiration

October 1, 2022

Backup your genealogy/family history related files.

or

Make a list of what you want to accomplish/DO genealogy-wise for each of the next fours weeks ... and do it!

We plan to have suggestions for each day of this month. Most will be smaller ideas to focus on for a day, some might be a little larger. We will try to have at least a couple suggestions so if one does not fit with your family history, hopefully the other will work.

For example, October 1 is International Racoon Appreciation Day so use today as a prompt to research your "bandit" ancestors/relations. Or, it is also Homemade Cookie Day and Digital Scrapbook Day among many other observance days. So use these various and sometimes quirky themes to focus your genealogy/family history efforts be it for 15 minutes, an hour or two, or all day long. Bake a family cookie recipe, or scrapbook it, or share it with family. Research your ancestral bakers, musicians, firefighters, etc. It's Model T day, record your (and your family's) car owning histories. You get the idea, I think.

And by the way, "DYK?" in the headline means Did You Know?

October is Family History Month!

See you someday soon at our favorite library!
