Mother's Day Sale at Ancestry on AncestryDNA until Sunday, May 8

Though it did not have a sale for DNA Day 2022, Ancestry is having a Mother's Day 2022 Sale on AncestryDNA and Gift Memberships until May 8, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. ET. There are a few offers for this sale.

And, be careful your browser may have cached an odd advertising error that not everyone may have seen.

The AncestryDNA (autosomal) test regularly $99 is on sale for $59, a savings of 40 dollars. Shipping and taxes are extra.

The AncestryDNA + Traits is on sale for $69, regular price is $119. Shipping and taxes are extra.

For just one dollar more, you can get the AncestryDNA test and a 3-month World Explorer subscription for $70 instead of the regular price of $100. (Regular price $99 plus the $1 offer.) But take note that this offer is for new and returning subscribers not for renewal of current subscriptions And, the subscription will automatically renew for $79.95 every three months unless you cancel at least two days before the renewal day using My Account or by contacting customer service.

Or you can get the AncestryDNA + Traits test and a 3-month All Access subscription for $149 instead of the regular price of $199. But take note that this offer is for new and returning subscribers not for renewal of current subscriptions And, the subscription will automatically renew for $119 every three months unless you cancel at least two days before the renewal day using My Account or by contacting customer service.

AncestryDNA test results provide an ethnicity/admixture report, a AncestryDNA match list, shared matches, an internal member messaging system, and automatic updates to results. As well as some basic information from ThruLines which is Ancestry's replacement or next generation of New Ancestor Discoveries and DNA Circles. See the chart below.

Be aware that with an active paid subscription to Ancestry, there is fuller access to some DNA features such as all available information about people is shown in ThruLines; Matches' public family trees are viewable instead of just a preview of five generations; and up to seven generations of surnames instead of up to five surnames are shown for direct ancestor surnames from your matches' trees.

From Ancestry.com, a look at AncestryDNA with and without a data membership/subscription.

Access to these extra features end if you discontinue your data subscription. Some of these extra features require a public family tree linked to the AncestryDNA kit.

AncestryDNA Traits now gives a look at 26 personal traits. These traits are:  Birth Weight, Facial Hair Thickness, Omega-3, Photic Sneeze Reflex, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitaman E, Wisdom Teeth,
Asparagus Metabolite Detection, Bitter Sensitivity, Cilantro Aversion, Cleft Chin, Earlobe Shape, Earwax Type,
Eye Color, Finger Length, Freckles, Hair Color, Hair Strand Thickness, Hair Type, Iris Patterns, Male Hair Loss, Savory (Umami) Sensitivity, Skin Pigmentation, Sweet Sensitivity, and Unibrow. More traits may be available in the future at an additional cost. There may still be a Compare Feature and Around the World Feature. This add-on is regularly $20 and is on sale for $10.

From Ancestry.com

AncestryDNA is the one DNA/genealogy testing site that does not provide a chromosome browser tool which allows you to see the chromosome segments you share in common with a match which is one of the scientific ways to confirm a match is a true match and not a match by chance. To access a chromosome browser you would need to download your kit's DNA data and upload that data to one of the three companies that do provide a chromosome browser: MyHeritageDNA, Family Tree DNA, and the third-party GedMatch.com website.

We are not sure if the FREESHIPDNA code will work on the Ancestry website with this sale but it does not hurt to try it.

Do you want just the DNA test and do you want to save on shipping costs? Remember AncestryDNA also sells its test kits on Amazon.com and often at sale prices when it is having a sale. For this sale, as of now when this post was written the AncestryDNA test is listed at $59 but the AncestryDNA+Traits is listed at regular price. The other options sold by AncestryDNA Official on Amazon are not on sale or on sale but not a as good as offer as well. So, this time the sale price on the Amazon website for AncestryDNA is as good as the Ancestry website deal for the AncestryDNA test or a bit better because shipping is free.

Non-Amazon Prime members get free shipping due to the total cost and because it is fulfilled by Amazon while Amazon Prime members just get quicker 2-day shipping for free. But be cautious and make sure the test kit you are buying is "sold by AncestryDNA Official and fulfilled by Amazon" to insure you are buying a genuine test kit. You will find this information just below the price. See the image below.

23andMe and Ancestry DNA Day 2022: Today Only Sales End at 11:59 pm

It is DNA Day is April 25. Here are the sale that are for today only. You generally have until 11:59 p.m. tonight.

Please take note, wondering minds can always click the labels/tags in our blog's left-hand column to see the sales in past years to get an idea of the sales trends for prior years. Click on the desired topic or the Savings tag/label.

Ancestry DNA
Still no DNA Day sale for AncestryDNA on its website. Prices are showing $79 for the AncestryDNA test with no mention of savings/discount. The regular price was $99 in the beginning of March. Other options for new or returning subscribers without an active subscription are $80 which includes a 3-month World Explorer subscription or $199 for AncestryDNA test + Traits and a 3-month All-Access subscription.

BUT over at Amazon.com website, it is showing that the AncestryDNA test sold by AncestryDNA Official is on sale for $59 instead of list price $99. The AncestryDNA+Traits does not appear to be on sale on the Amazon.com website.

23andMe
Today is the real DNA Day Sale for 23andMe.
Remember taxes and shipping are extra.

23andMe's Health + Ancestry Service is regularly priced at $199, for today only it is half-off (50%) meaning $99.

There is also a bundle: the 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service test kit plus one year of the 23andMe Membership. The Health+Ancestry test is regularly $199 but on sale for 50% off at $99 bundled with the $29 one year prepaid membership. (Total price $128.)

23andMe Ancestry Service (autosomal DNA) provides an ethnicity (admixture) report, list of DNA matches, chromosome browser and an internal member messaging system. 23andMe also provides a general look at your Y-DNA haplogroup (if male) and a general look at your mtDNA haplogroup. Some DNA matching features/tools are now part of the subscription service. A newer feature is the Family Tree feature which is automatically built from your DNA relationships. See the 23andMe website to learn more about the Health service features which includes 10+ Health Pre-disposition reports, 5+ Wellness reports, and 40+ Carrier Status reports.

23andMe made some changes to its service in 2019 without any announcements to its customers before the changes happened. Be aware that with the recent ethnicity update it was learned that testers on the earlier testing chips would not receive any ethnicity updates at this time, only those on the V5 Chip. Also, a few months prior testers' DNA matches were reduced down to just 1,500 matches. (That leaves most testers with matches related at the furthest in the 4th to 5th cousin range.) The search capabilities also have been restricted from what it had been capable of before. 23andMe is now implementing a yearly subscription ($29/year) for customers on the V5 Chip who also have tested their Health too. Those that subscribe get access to three times the DNA matches, advanced search capabilities (like those that were there before and some other ways to filter matches), and a new series of health reports related to genetics and medicines as well as some predisposition reports. Unfortunately, that would mean existing customers not on the V5 chip would need to retest (yes, pay) so their DNA is on the V5 chip. But if an early tester is deceased there is no way to re-test that person on the V5 Chip.

With these changes, 23andMe reduces it usability for most genealogists to use DNA to aid their research. For adoptees, donor conceived and others searching for mis-attributed parentage (not parent expected) situations, you still never know where that someone tested and so at a good sale price the 23andMe Ancestry Only test or really good sale price for the 23andMe Ancestry+Health test it might be worthwhile. But there may be limitations if that someone they seek is tested on a V4 or earlier chip.

As a reminder, 23andMe also sells its test kits on Amazon.com and often at sale prices when it is having a sale. At this time, 23andMe DNA tests are not on sale at Amazon. Non-Amazon Prime members get free shipping due to the total cost and because it is fulfilled by Amazon while Amazon Prime members just get quicker 2-day shipping for free. But be cautious and make sure the test kit you are buying is "sold by 23andMe, Inc and fulfilled by Amazon" to insure you are buying a genuine test kit. You will find this information just below the price. See the image below.

The 1921 census for England and Wales is only available digitally through the Find My Past websites, which requires a small fee for record transcripts or record images. This weekend through 23:59 BST, April 25, 2022, purchases of 1921 census images or transcripts will be 50 percent off, automatically applied during checkout. T&Cs apply. Or, this 1921 census can be accessed for free from the internal computers at the National Archives in Southwest London or one of its partner locations: the Manchester Central Library and National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth.

Archion.de 3-Month or 1-Year Passes on Sale from April 22 thru May 6, 2022

If you have ancestors from Germany who were Evangelische in religion, you may have heard of the Archion.de website. It was founded in 2016 by the Evangelischen Kirche in Deutschland with eleven regional Evangelische churches. The website has continued to grow through the years and currently has over 125,000 church books digitized and now 23 partner archives which include primarily protestant archives as well as archives of dioceses, states, towns and associations.

From today, April 22, 2022, through Friday, May 6 2022, Archion.de is having sale on 3-month or 1-year passes.

Passes -- Paid-Access starting from time of purchase.

3-Month Pass is regularly €52.20 now on sale for €44 including VAT
This pass allows an individual user to access the digital church book archive for three months (90 days) starting from the date of subscription, as well as up to 150 image
(PDF) downloads.

1-Year Pass is regularly €178.80 now on sale for €144 including VAT
This pass allows an individual user to access the digital church book archive for one year (365 days) starting from the date of subscription, as well as up to 600 image
(PDF) downloads.

At this time, vouchers or coupons are not on sale. Vouchers/Coupons allow an individual user to access the digital church book archive for period purchased starting from the date of redemption by the recipient. You have two years to activate a voucher/coupon.

You must create an account prior to making a purchase. Or be logged in with an existing account. Purchases can be made using a credit card or PayPal. Passes and Vouchers do not automatically renew.

The Archion website is in German with some English translated website pages. You are able to browse the contents of the website for free meaning what is available. Uploaded digitized church books are shaded in green. If a location or book is not shaded in green than it is not yet uploaded. The forum boards are also free but you must be logged into the website and have the site in German (DE.)

The church books are organized first by the regional holding archive and the regional division and the parish location where you can then see what records types and time periods are available. At this time the digitized church records are mostly NOT electronically indexed so this is a browse and manually search like you would have done in the days of microfilm. And yes, the record images are in German in that old Schrift handwriting for the most part.

Here is a relatively current list of the provinces and archives included on the Archion.de website. Church books are added daily. Generally, in batches from three or so different archives each month. The monthly email newsletter usually informs what was recently added, what is currently being added, and what will be added next.

Sales for DNA Day -- April 25, 2022!

DNA Day is April 25. And as you can surmise there are DNA Sales going on to celebrate the day.

Please take note, wondering minds can always click the labels/tags in our blog's left-hand column to see the sales in past years to get an idea of the sales trends for prior years. Click on the desired topic or the Savings tag/label.

MyHeritageDNA
MyHeritageDNA
(autosomal) tests now regularly $89 each are on sale for $49 each (plus taxes and shipping.) The sale "ends soon" meaning 11:59 pm April 25.
Orders of two or more DNA kits receive free shipping.

MyHeritageDNA is one of the younger players in the DNA and genealogy testing niche but it is becoming a must be at for its DNA tools. Its customer base is more international. MyHeritage has chromosome browser feature and made its internal member messaging feature free. It also offers an ethnicity/admixture report and a list of DNA matches. No data subscription is needed to see/use all the DNA matching features including its AutoCluster feature. A few additional features were added earlier this year and last year -- like an update to its ethnicity estimates and genetic groups including viewing the genetic groups of your match and seeing what you have in common.

As a reminder, MyHeritageDNA also sells its test kits on Amazon.com and often at sale prices when it is having a sale. However, for this sale the MyHeritageDNA test is only on sale for $59.00 on Amazon. So it may be close to the same price as buying direct from MyHeritage and paying shipping costs. Make sure the seller shown is MyHeritage fulfilled by Amazon and not sold by a third-party unauthorized seller. Non-Amazon Prime members get free shipping due to the total cost and because it is fulfilled by Amazon; prime members just get quicker 2-day shipping for free.
Look for this before adding your item to your cart.

Family Tree DNA
The Family Tree DNA DNA Day 2022 also ends at 11:59 pm, April 25. Shipping and taxes are extra which vary depending on where the test is shipped. There is a lot on sale for this sale.

There are some upgrades on sale too. Remember, the upgrades available to your DNA tests depends on what you have already tested. We haven't spotted the standard Family Tree DNA Sales Chart for this sale yet that usually provides a clearer list of what tests/upgrades are included with a particular sale.

Family Tree DNA provides an ethnicity (admixture) report, list of DNA matches, chromosome browser and allows DNA matches to contact a match directly if that match allows it. Once tested, DNA samples are stored so that additional test types (upgrades) can be added if desired. So if you have already have a tested person that you want to add another test type that is on sale, sign into that test's account before adding the sale test to the cart. Family Tree DNA is the only genealogy DNA testing company that offers all three DNA test types: autosomal, Y-DNA and mtDNA. No subscription is needed to see/use all the DNA matching features. See our previous post containing some Reminders and Cautions regarding changes with Family Tree DNA.
warnings.

As a reminder, Family Tree DNA sometimes sells its autosomal DNAtest kits (called FamilyFinder) on Amazon.com and often at sale prices when it is having a sale. For this sale it is $49 at Amazon so buying from Amazon eliminates the shipping costs. (Make sure the seller shown is FamilyTreeDNA fulfilled by Amazon and not sold by a third-party unauthorized seller.) Non-Amazon Prime members get free shipping due to the total cost and because it is fulfilled by Amazon; prime members just get quicker 2-day shipping for free.

Ancestry DNA
At this point, AncestryDNA has not yet announced a sale for DNA Day 2022. Keep an eye out closer to April 25, to see what sale is offered up to customers.

23andMe
23andMe's current sale is different at this time. Buy 1 DNA test and get 10% off each additional kit purchased in the same order.
Remember taxes and shipping are extra. It is possible the offer might be tweaked on DNA Day though that is just a guess based on prior years.

23andMe's Ancestry + Traits DNA test is $99 at its regular price.

23andMe's Health + Ancestry Service
is $199 at its regular price.

The sale option is a bundle: the 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service test kit plus one year of the 23andMe Membership. The Health+Ancestry test is regularly $199 but on sale for $169 when purchased as a bundle with the $29 one year prepaid membership. (Total price $198.)

You will find this information just below the price. See the image below.

Living DNA
The sale over at LivingDNA is a 30% sale in honor of DNA Day 2022.  LivingDNA Full Ancestry Kit regularly priced at $99 is on sale for $69 plus shipping and taxes. (Free shipping when purchasing 3 or more kits at the same time) It is described as the full ancestry experience from your deep ancestry to DNA matching. It includes recent ancestry, sub-regional ancestry breakdown, your DNA today, extended ancestry, DNA matching and free ancestry updates.

The LivingDNA Full Ancestry Kit is the original LivingDNA test comparable to autosomal DNA tests at other genealogy/DNA testing companies.

LivingDNA is based in the United Kingdom so if you have a lot of English and Irish ancestry the more detailed regions for Britain and Ireland in the ethnicity may be of interest to you. (Part of the now LivingDNA Full Ancestry Kit.) The company is still building itself so at a sale price it may be worth a try. Perhaps you will find a clue to direct your search.

BUT we have become aware that LivingDNA is now requiring that your LivingDNA test be taken/used and sent in within one year of the date of purchase. They will not process tests older than that despite the swab test tube saying its expiration date is well after that. Based on a LivingDNA Support article this change may have been implemented in early 2019. However, we are not sure when its Terms of Services was changed to reflect this. So if you have a LivingDNA test sitting around you might want to check its purchase date. Hopefully you still have time, or you may need to pay for shipping on a replacement test kit.

As a reminder, LivingDNA sometimes sells its test kits on Amazon.com and often at sale prices when it is having a sale. However, for this sale LivingDNA is not selling its tests at all on Amazon at this time. (At the times when LivingDNA does, make sure the seller shown is LivingDNA fulfilled by Amazon and not sold by a third-party unauthorized seller.) Non-Amazon Prime members get free shipping due to the total cost if the kit is fulfilled by Amazon; prime members just get quicker 2-day shipping for free.
