Lapeer County Genealogical Society hosts 6th Annual Cemetery Workshop at Lum Cemetery on Sat., May 19, 9 am - 5 pm

The Lapeer County Genealogical Society is still without a website so as a courtesy MCGG would like to let you know that LCGS in conjunction with Mark Morton of Gravestone Guardians of Ohio will host its 6th Annual Cemetery Preservation Workshop on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Lum Cemetery in Arcadia Township, Michigan.

Lum Cemetery, also known as Arcadia Township Cemetery as well as DeGroat Cemetery, is located on Lum Road/County Road 7 just west of the village of Lum.

This all-day (9 a.m. - 5 p.m., weather permitting) workshop is full of educational instruction with hands on training. Some of the topics to be covered include: headstone cleaning without harming the stone; re-setting a stone which as broken off and fallen over; re-positioning one that is dangerously leaning or in a sunken condition; re-leveling a stone and reconstructing a broken headstone. Probing for a headstone is on the list too.

Mr. Morton has hosted previous cemetery workshops with LCGS.

The cost of the all day workshop is just $40 if registered before May 5, 2018. After that date, the fee is $45.00. Reservations are required and the fee is non-refundable. Whether you are a municipality struggling with your local cemetery or an individual that has the desire to learn this art, you will not want to miss this class.
