Did you hear? An original book of "missing" 1810 U.S. Federal Census for the Town of Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, was found among some uncatalogued books at the Peabody Essex Museum.
The town was not included in the microfilming of that census year by the National Archives and Records Administration.
According to the Vita Brevis blog, before the book was handed over to NARA it was digitized and placed on the Internet Archive website. The book was digitized in color -- what a difference that makes!
I think we all know some microfilmed original records that we wish still existed so the originals could be redone using digitization.
See you soon at Mt. Clemens Public Library! (Soon we hope.)
