Feb. 1, 2022, is Transcription Tuesday

Tomorrow, Feb. 1, 2022, is Transcription Tuesday and FamilySearch is participating over at its FamilySearch.org website.

Transcription Tuesday is an annual online transcription project that was started in 2017 by Who Do You Think You Are? magazine in the United Kingdom. A record 100,000 records were transcribed in one day on the last Transcription Tuesday.

If you have some time this Tuesday, and are interested in "giving back" to the genealogy community, consider spending some time joining in on this indexing event.

Just visit this page of FamilySearch and click the link. You do need to sign into your free FamilySearch account. There is a list of indexing projects on the page. (Projects included are for England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.) Some projects have links to an organization's website with instructions for the indexing project.

Our Next MCGG Virtual Meeting is Wednesday, February 9, The Topic is How to Use PowerPoint/Presentations/Slides to Tell a Story

Our next MCGG and Let's Talk...Genealogy groups combined virtual meeting is, Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 7 p.m. using Zoom Meeting. The topic of the meeting is  ... How to Use PowerPoint/ Presentations/Slides to Tell a Story presented by Lisa Eschenburg.

Not sure how to use Microsoft Office's PowerPoint, SoftMaker FreeOffice's Presentations or Google's Slides? All three programs are very similar so we will cover some basics to give you some confidence that you too can tell a story about an ancestor or some aspect of your research to share with others.

MCGG members on the mailing list will receive the Zoom Meeting invite in the reminder email to be sent prior to the meeting. New attendees can obtain the invite link using the Library Events calendar on the website of the Mount Clemens Public Library.

Recordings of All MCGG Combined Virtual Meetings are Now Available on YouTube

Whew! Finally it is done. The surviving recordings for all of our MCGG virtual combined meetings have been converted, edited, reconverted and posted to our MCGG YouTube channel.

As of today you will find our MCGG 2020-2021 genealogy season as well as the current MCGG 2021-2022 genealogy season and its meetings so far.

MCGG 2020-2021 Genealogy Season

MCGG 2021-2022 Genealogy Season

We say surviving because there have been a meeting or two where we forgot to "press" the record button so our meeting went to the literary ether rather than being preserved for later viewing.

For our latest oops in December 2021 we decided to re-record some of what was shown that night but since it has been a while we decided not to do the same for the other earlier oops nights.

Enjoy the recordings. And we hope to see you at our next virtual meeting in February 2022!

1921 Census for England and Wales Released Today on Find My Past

Did you know the United States is not the only country having a census release this year? Today, access was opened to the 1921 census for England and Wales.

This census is only available digitally through the Find My Past websites, which requires a small fee for record transcripts or record images. Or, this 1921 census can be accessed for free from the internal computers at the National Archives in Southwest London or one of its partner locations: the Manchester Central Library and National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth.

At present, Find My Past in the only place you can find the 1921 England and Wales Census. We expect (but do not know for sure) that eventually it will be accessible from other genealogy websites similar to the release of 1939 Register.

For those family researchers in the United States who have a late immigrating family, or a grandma or great grandma who was a war bride, happy searching! And happy searching for everyone else too!

Next Wednesday, January 12, 2022, is MCGG's First Meeting of Year 2022

It is time for a new season of MCGG meetings. Our next MCGG and Let's Talk...Genealogy groups combined virtual meeting is next, Wednesday, January 12, 2021, at 7 p.m. using Zoom Meeting. The topic of the meeting is  ... Where Do I Go From Here?

Bring research questions, brick walls, or new finds to share with the group! Let's share our challenges, maybe someone will have an idea to solve them.

Why is this our most popular discussion topic? Because it is your opportunity to get your questions or problems hopefully answered. But not just from one point of view but often several. And, when you have a new genealogy find you have like-minded genealogists who understand that satisfaction when maybe family members do not.

MCGG members on the mailing list will receive the Zoom Meeting invite in the reminder email to be sent prior to the meeting. New attendees can obtain the invite link using the Library Events calendar on the website of the Mount Clemens Public Library.

These databases were created and are updated (where applicable) by Macomb County Genealogy Group volunteers and Mount Clemens Public Library staff.
