What is Behind those Changes of Terms of Use and Privacy at some Websites?

Wondering about those changes in Terms of Use/Privacy that are appearing on some genealogy websites like Ancestry.com, 23andMe.com and MyHeritage.com?

 The Legal Genealogists provides a summary of what is happening and why? Which does NOT replace reading the terms of service yourself, of course.
