The Washington Historical Museum located at 58230 Van Dyke north of 26 Mile Road, will host a program on the Erie Canal at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 26.
Patricia Hallman will talk about the canal that brought thousands of people and commercial goods from New England states to the Midwest. A groundbreaking event for the Erie Canal was held on July 4, 1817, in Rome, New York and the project was completed from Albany to Buffalo on October 26, 1825, two hundred years ago.
The museum will also be open from 1 to 4 p.m. for visitors to tour exhibits about military, school, scouting, and local history.
